Frequently Asked Questions
What is Needed to Attain a Marriage License?
Marriage License information and applications can be obtained in the Marriage and Passport Division of the Clerk of Circuit Court. Both applicants must be 18 years or older, apply in person and must bring a valid drivers license, passport or Florida Identification Card in addition to a social security number. If the applicant does not have a social security number, they must have an immigration, naturalization or alien registration card. If either applicant was previously married, the date the marriage ended is required.
What is the Fee for a Marriage License and Ceremony?
The fee for a marriage license is $97.50. Marriage ceremonies can be performed in the Clerk’s office until 4:00 p.m. daily. The cost for performing the ceremony is $30.00. Applicants, who are Florida residents, who file a certification that both parties have completed a state-sanctioned marriage preparation course within the past twelve (12) months, are entitled to a discount of $32.50 which will make the required fee $65.00. If you are a Florida resident and choose not to take the marriage preparation course you must wait three (3) days from the issuance date of the license before marrying. You also will not be entitled to the reduced fee of $65.00. The three (3) day waiting period does not effect non-residents, however, if one of the applicants is a Florida resident the three (3) day waiting period will apply if the couple has not completed the marriage preparation course. This course may be taken up to one (1) year prior to the date of application for a marriage license.
May I Pay for My Marriage License with a Personal Check?
No. Personal checks are not accepted. You may pay for your marriage license with cash, money order, or with a credit or debit card. An additional convenience fee is added to credit and debit card payments. Money orders should be made payable to Larry Whaley, Clerk of Court.
Are Blood Tests required in the State of Florida?
No. The law requiring this test was abolished in October, 1986.
How Long does it Take to Get a Marriage License and How Long is it Valid Once it is Issued?
When an application is filed the marriage license is issued immediately. However, there is the three (3) day waiting period before the license becomes valid for Florida residents if they have not completed the marriage preparation course. The marriage license must be used within sixty (60) days of the issuance of the license. The license may be used in any county within the State of Florida. However, the executed license must be returned within ten (10) days to the county in which it was issued for recording.
Who May Perform Marriage Ceremonies?
All regularly ordained ministers or other ordained clergy; Elders in communion with some churches; All judicial officers (Judges) of the State of Florida; Clerk’s of Circuit Court and their deputies of the State of Florida; a Notary Public of this state; and persons called "Quakers" or "Friends" in the manner and form used or practiced in their societies.
Can an Individual Younger than 16 get a Marriage License from the Clerk’s Office with Parental Permission?
